Rapping with no teeth
When you are 8 years old, there are many changes you go through, including losing your teeth. This is not usually a problem unless you are recording a rap song which requires pronouncing a huge amount of words in a very short period of time.
When JoJo recorded his first song Throw Ya Hands at 7 he had just lost his front two teeth which made it very difficult to say words starting with “Th”. If you listen carefully you will notice he says “Frow Ya Hands” instead of “Throw Ya Hands.” This is what happens when rappers lose their front teeth.
When he went to record Lift Your Praise it got worse, a lot worse. He lost the two teeth beside his front teeth, so now he was missing his front 4 teeth. This made it very difficult for JoJo, but he persisted and recorded his second song even though by the end his mic was covered in spit (just kidding).
As his teeth grow back, JoJo is only going to get better, but I am very proud of the way he persisted through some tough times. When I asked him why he kept trying, he always said, “for Charles, Dad.” Charles is the child JoJo sponsors through Compassion with the money he has raised through his music.
What a big heart! We are very proud of JoJo’s compassion for kids less fortunate.
